Jacob's Ladder

By Jacobs Ladder on 27 June 2013 at 9:42pm

On July 6th, 2012 my husband and my lives changed! I was pregnant with our first child, a boy to be named Jacob. Up until the 6th my pregnancy was completely normal, in fact on the 5th I had been to my monthly OBGYN appointment and everything was normal. I began having contractions the night of the 5th having no idea that that was what was going on, I went to bed and...

I caught up with Helene Kydd again recently - we had worked together as litigation lawyers at the fearomse Herbert Smith in the late 80s/ear.y 90s. I left in 1993 when my (then) wife was pregnant with our first child for quality of life reasons, which I have never regretted. He was born 16 weeks early, weighing just 1lb 11oz.  Miraculously he survived. Today he is a healthy 10 year old interested in Dr Who and Karate!

Orla's Story

By Helene on 18 June 2011 at 11:22am

In June 2001 I was expecting my fourth child.  The birth of our three other children had been smooth and good. All were born at University College Hospital, London and I had been lucky enough to have the same midwife attend the birth of each one. All three were born in water in a quiet low-lit room, with no pain relief or medical intervention. I did not stay in...
